November 4, 2026
GRAND BLANC, Mich. – ELGA Credit Union is pleased to announce that $75,000 in Community Multiplier grant funding has been awarded to four non-profits as part of their efforts to build stronger communities through affordable housing, home preservation, and workforce development initiatives.
Through the Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis (FHLBI) Community Multiplier – Member Match program, ELGA CU is awarding $18,750 each to Communities First, Inc., Active Boys in Christ, Renewal Under Growth, Inc., and Saginaw-Shiawassee Habitat for Humanity.
The Community Multiplier – Member Match program provides grants to financial institution members of FHLBI to support targeted affordable housing initiatives. The program offers grants of up to $60,000, with a 25% matching commitment from the participating financial institution.
“Strong communities start with opportunities for people to build stable, secure futures,” said Terry Katzur, President and CEO of ELGA Credit Union. “We’re proud to be partnering with these organizations as they work to address housing needs, strengthen the communities and create pathways for individuals and families to thrive.”
Each organization will direct its grant funding towards initiatives that address local housing needs and deliver real community impact.
- Communities First, Inc. will provide its Housing Supportive Services to help families access the resources they need, build financial stability, and achieve long-term housing security through individualized support and community connections. www.communitiesfirstinc.org
- Active Boys in Christ will support its Housing Stability & Workforce Pathways Initiative, which will provide skilled trades training and paid work-based learning to young people in the Flint area as part of residential rehabilitation projects. https://activeboysinchrist.org/
- Renewal Under Growth, Inc. will advance its Handyman Workforce & Affordable Housing Preservation Initiative by training up-and-coming handymen and helping them launch their own businesses to provide safe, reliable, and affordable home maintenance services to low-income homeowners in Genesee County and surrounding communities. https://renewalundergrowth.org/
- Saginaw-Shiawassee Habitat for Humanity will continue to support its Homeownership, Critical Home Repair, and Home Preservation programs to help more members of our community achieve access to safe, affordable housing and to remain in their homes. http://www.sshfh.org/
Together, these initiatives address housing needs from multiple angles: preserving existing homes, helping families to stay in their homes, developing skilled trades professionals, and providing opportunities for affordable homeownership.
Supporting the communities it serves is at the heart of ELGA CU’s commitment to making a positive impact. Through partnerships like these, ELGA CU continues to invest in initiatives that help individuals and families move toward a brighter financial future.
