We are a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI). This Certification is a designation given by the CDFI Fund to specialized organizations that provide financial services in low-income communities and to people who lack access to financing.

We are a Veterans Benefit Banking Program (VBBP) participating Credit Union. We are committed to helping Veterans, beneficiaries, survivors, and caregivers gain access to the financial products, services, and support they need. We are committed to ensure all VA beneficiaries are able to open a low-to-no-cost checking account when they bring a direct deposit to ELGA Credit Union.

An individual who joins a credit union by meeting eligibility requirements and opening a Membership Share account, becoming a part-owner! Members have a voice in how the credit union is run and benefit from competitive rates, lower fees, and a focus on service rather than profit. It’s a more personal and community-driven approach to banking.
Who Can Become a Member?
- Individuals who live, work, worship, volunteer, or attend school within the State of Michigan are eligible to join.
- Saginaw Valley State University students and alumni.
- Immediate family members of any current ELGA Credit Union members.
- Any business or legal entity primarily comprised of the same general group of individuals as the credit union’s membership outlined above.
- Any person making a $25.00 donation to the Salvation Army Bed and Bread Program. (Not available for online account opening)
IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT PROCEDURES FOR OPENING A NEW ACCOUNT To help the government fight the funding of terrorism and money laundering activities, Federal law requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify and record information that identifies each person who opens an account. What this means to you: When you open an account, we will ask for your name, address, date of birth and other information that will allow us to identify you. We may also ask to see your driver’s license or other identifying documents.
